Exercise during pregnancy

As much as I'd like to be lazing around all day, it can't be good for me or the baby. After all, my husband does insist (even now that the doctor's given us the green light to exercise) that all I should be doing is staying in bed.

My doctor's advised that it's safe for pregnant women to exercise, as long as they don't overwork their bodies which increases their body temperature. The higher body temperature can harm the well-being of the baby. Eager to kick off my new exercise regime, I started google-ing safe exercises for pregnant women. You'd be amazed at how much information there is online!

I was so excited! I had to ensure my workout plan isn't too rigorous and is low impact. I spoke to my Personal Trainer about it today and we drew up a doable exercise plan - swimming once a week, brisk walking twice a week and strength training three times a week. And although my strength training isn't the 16kg weights I'm used to working on, the 1kg weights aren't so bad considering I'm not meant to over-exert myself!!!

My advice to all pregnant mommies out there, make sure you consult your doctor about exercising before embarking on your fitness plan as your doctor will know you best. If you're newly pregnant and haven't seen a doctor as yet, I recommend you visit the High Street Medical & Dental in Reservoir. He's so knowledgeable and compassionate - best GP I've been to EVER!!! And if you need a Personal Trainer who really listens to you, whom you can count on and make your sessions fun; I recommend you get in touch with Mike from StudioPump. He's in Northcote and has the coolest Studio around. Never thought I'd pay to have someone make me exercise, but after going with my girlfriend as support for her first session, I've found myself coming back twice a week!!! You'll LOVE him and I'm not exaggerating!

All the best with your pregnancy fitness plan!

7 weeks

We're having a baby!!!

As excited as my husband and I am about our baby (whom we affectionately refer to as the bun), I can't help worry, and worry, and worry.

What if I'm not eating the right things? What if I'm over-exercising? What if I'm not eating or exercising enough? There are so many what ifs!!!

I wish there's a book out there with all the answers to my questions. Everytime I have a question, I google it. There's an abundant of answers but so many so contradictory!

And then there's the am I going to be taking 12 months off when the baby's born or go back to work after the baby's birth? What's it going to do to my career?

I'm sure throughout the next 7-8 months I'll settle into the Mommy role a bit better, but for now, I'll try to enjoy the moment and not worry too much. What will be will be =)
